Este vai um bocadinho atrasado, sorry Malomil

 
Supervisé par Boris Vian, alors directeur artistique chez Philips, cet  enregistrement parisien du grand Earl Hines est tout simplement une pure  merveille. Reprenant de célèbres standards, le pianiste les réinvente à sa  manière et tire un véritable feu d'artifice de notes aussi envoûtantes que  capiteuses. L'agilité de ses doigts donne le vertige. La main droite parcourt à  vive allure le clavier en quête de phrases aussi fournies qu'élégantes, de  rythmes aussi stupéfiants qu'inattendus. La gauche, imperturbable, marque  fièrement les syncopes. Pressenti pour cette séance, Pierre Michelot ne put au  dernier moment l'assurer et la contrebasse se vit finalement confiée à Guy  Pedersen. Un troisième homme, Gus Wallez, tint discrètement la batterie lors  de cette mémorable leçon de piano gravée dans la cire en novembre 1957.

Biografia no Malomil

 
The young but already great saxophonist James Carter explores seven jazz standards with pianist Craig Taborn (himself a young master capable of playing in several styles), bassist Jaribu Shahid, and drummer Tani Tabbal. Among the most versatile and knowledgeable of today's saxophonists, Carter draws on many top stylists during these lengthy solos, yet always sounds quite individual. His violent depiction of a train whistle on "Take the 'A' Train" perfectly launches that romp, and he also really stretches out on "Epistrophy," plays the blues on John Coltrane's "Equinox," and shows quite a bit of fire on "Oleo." Cobbled from two sessions in 1963, this is one of Charles Mingus's stormiest recordings. From the blues-painted bass moaning that opens "II BS," a faster vamp on "Haitian Fight Song," to the blazing fire of "Hora Decubitis," these tunes come furiously barreling out one after another. Speed and density aside, however, there are also multicolor, lovely tunes like Ellington's "Mood Indigo" and Mingus's paean to Lester Young (elsewhere dubbed "Goodbye Porkpie Hat"). More than anything, though, this is a major document thanks to the presence of the big ensemble, harmonized by the late Jaki Byard on piano and fronted by a herd of horn-players, Eric Dolphy and Booker Ervin chief among them. --Andrew Bartlett
